SCV Congress of Republicans Endorses Weste for City Council

SANTA CLARITA – The Santa Clarita Valley Congress of Republicans (SCVCR) voted March 4 to endorse Mayor Laurene Weste in her re-election bid for Santa Clarita City Council. The decision by the SCVCR Board followed a session during which five council candidates addressed the membership and participated in a question-and-answer period. Weste was the only candidate to receive the two-thirds vote required for endorsement by the SCVCR’s bylaws.

Other candidates who participated were incumbent Council Member Frank Ferry and incumbent Mayor Pro-Tem Marsha McLean, as well as challengers TimBen Boydston and David Gauny.

“The SCV Congress of Republicans gives its full and enthusiastic support to Mayor Laurene Weste,” said Jeff Brown, president of the organization, a chapter of the California Congress of Republicans. “The board’s decision was resoundingly clear, and we urge all voters to re-elect Laurene to the Santa Clarita City Council.

“In this time of economic challenges, Laurene has shown her strong leadership in ensuring that Santa Clarita does not raise local taxes and maintains a 15 percent budget reserve of $11 million,” Brown added. “It’s more important than ever that we elect the best people with proven records to guide our city government. It doesn’t get any more local than this. We encourage all voters to participate in the process and vote on April 13.”

The California Congress of Republicans (CCR) was founded in 1989 as a mainstream conservative, grassroots organization. Chartered by the California Republican Party, the CCR stresses the inclusion of divergent views and is rooted in the core Republican principles of individual responsibility, personal freedom, limited government, a market economy, low taxes, and strong national defense. The CCR doesn’t play politics with personal and religious social issues, leaving those to the practice of personal freedoms.
