Taxes & Tyranny [Jonah Goldberg]

This is a great article from Jonah Goldberg.

“Taxes & Tyranny [Jonah Goldberg]

Amidst all of the hooplah, I’ve heard a lot of complaints from liberals. Here are the most frequent complaints and my responses.

1. All of this tyranny talk is overheated and idiotic.

Well, some of it surely is. But look: According to that Reason video I posted below, Americans work an average of 103 days a year just to pay their taxes. If you had to work 365 days a year to pay your taxes, that would be a kind of slavery or indentured servitude, because all of your productive labor would be going to the government. You would have no resources of your own to provide for the life you wanted. Instead the government would provide you not with what you want, but what the government decides you need.

Would anybody like more tea?

Howard P. “Buck” McKeon has posted an editorial here is a reprint of that Editorial

EDITORIAL: Let The Tea Parties Continue; Voters Should Reject Proposition 1A

Thursday, 23 April 2009
The following is an editorial from Santa Clarita Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon.

Would anybody like more tea?

Last week, thousands of Californians took to the streets to protest high taxes and irresponsible government spending. Californians -as well as Americans from other states – are deeply concerned about the crushing weight of debt the government is putting on our children and grandchildren. For those of you that attended and spoke out at your local tea party, I thank you and agree with you wholeheartedly. Californians are taxed too high and our state and federal governments are spending and borrowing too much.

More Photos from the SCV Tea Party!

Here are some more photos from the tea party, I’m not sure who to credit with some of these photos.   I’ve heard it said by certain pundits that the Tea Party movement is filled with a bunch of middle aged and old people, and that it did not ring true with the younger generation,  I would disagree.  There are many young people involved in the Tea Party movement, these photos show only a few of the many that were in attendance.  After all they are the ones who will be left holding the bag for this spending spree.   I hope you enjoy the photos I’ll add more as they come in.

No on Prop 1A

In February of 2009, the California Legislature voted to make California taxpayers the highest taxed people in the country for the next two years. Claiming that the higher taxes were needed to fix the budget mess (a mess they created themselves), these politicians raised our income and sales taxes, and nearly doubled the dreaded car tax. To add insult to injury for California families, they took away the dependent child credit so that you will now pay an additional $200 per child.

To make matters even worse, these same political elitists have placed Proposition 1A on the May 19 special election ballot. Prop. 1A would more than DOUBLE the taxes that have already been imposed this year. Here is what is important about Proposition 1A: Masked behind a phony spending limit is an extension of the massive tax increase just approved. Prop. 1A means an additional two years, for a total of 4 years of record high taxes. That’s another $16 billion of your money!

You Tube Video Blogger has it right

I was over at YouTube and came across video blogger “servedwithlemon’s” video blog of the Susan Roesgen CNN segment.  It appears this young lady can figure it out.  Why can’t anyone else in the media.  Here is her Video Blog

Local blogger give props to TeaPartySCV

I don’t think he meant to but here is the quote

What’s more, the level of coordination, the production of the website, and the involvement of scores of local businesses all lead me to suspect this effort wasn’t undertaken by a single person or even a few Glen Beck fans. Who paid for the domain name on March 21 for an event just three weeks later? Who paid for the hosting (which, by the way, is based in Canada)? Who was sophisticated enough to ensure this grass roots site has a 95% effective Search Engine Optimization score? And why does the site say it’s permissible to park “in the mall parking lot” when the mall has always enforced parking rules on other (read: liberal) protests at McBean & Valencia?
Can’t prove anything at all, just questions I have as I’ve looked into the site.
